Our Priorities
Educational Enrichment
Every student needs a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking, especially in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
That includes parental engagement. When parents are involved, students' learning is enriched.
I believe that education ought to go beyond the school curriculum to foster curiosity, communication and collaboration as opposed to a strictly reward and punishment system.
Quality of Care
Every student deserves access to opportunities.
That means examining the disparities within the educational system, evaluating best practices, and producing actionable steps that strengthen transparency and efficiency to ensure that no student is left behind, forgotten, overlooked, or neglected within the educational system or process.
In the educational system, quality of care means creating the conditions in which students can learn, develop and succeed holistically, in a timely, safe, efficient, equitable, integrated and student centred manner; because by centering students, we also centre educators, staff and parents, in order to realize better results.
Accountability
We need to know whether our schools and programs are meeting and exceeding the benchmarks.
EQAO should measure more than just students test results. It is also a reflection of care and should measure more than students ability, but also teachers competency and delivery.
Not just seen as test scores, attendance records or disciplinary bodies. It means giving students and teachers the tools and resources they need to meet and exceed expectations.
Accountability means genuinely caring for your students, teachers, parents, staff and the larger community as our neighbours and friends. Each one looking out for the other’s best interest.
Opportunities
Students learn best when they feel safe, valued and supported.
I am particularly interested in the experiences of marginalized or at-risk students, while recognizing that educational opportunities get to everyone, including opportunities for leadership.
This is why I support empirical-based testing, transparent reporting, early indication of learning gaps, and meaningful measurement of students’ achievements to ensure every student can succeed within the classroom and beyond.
